Is It a Good Idea to Rent a Van for Moving?
At Malco Rent a Car we believe the answer is yes. Renting a van is an economical option for moving house, far more cost-effective than making multiple trips in your own car or hiring a moving company. However, organizing your own move requires planning and, sometimes, extra help if you’re moving large pieces of furniture.
Key Questions Before Renting a Van
- What will you be moving? Moving a few boxes is not the same as a full move with bulky furniture. For small loads, you can opt for our smaller vans. If you’re transporting sofas, wardrobes, or large appliances, you’ll need more cargo space. Make a list of items and consider their dimensions to choose the right van.
- How long will the move take? Your item list will help you estimate the time needed. If your move spans several days, you might start by moving boxes and small items to make room for larger furniture later. Clear planning will help you decide if you need the van for one, two, or more days.
- Do you have a parking spot? Assess the parking availability at both your current and new location. If you have a garage or designated parking, check the height restrictions to choose a van that fits. If you rely on street parking for loading and unloading, try to schedule during weekends or holidays when space is more available.
- Do you have enough help? If your load is heavy, you’ll need assistance from friends or family. Schedule your move with them in advance to ensure their availability. Poor planning might leave you with a van ready but no help to move the heaviest items.
Ready for Your Move?
If you already know what you’re moving, how long you’ll need the van, and who will help you, the next step is to choose the ideal van for your move.
