Carsharing vs Renting a Car: Which Option Is Best for You?
Do you need a vehicle and want to know which option is more cost-effective? We compare our innovative carsharing service with conventional car rental so that you can save money on your trips.
To begin with, if you are not entirely sure what carsharing is, it's a new mobility service that we recently launched in Castellón, allowing users to pick up a car in the city center, use it as long as needed, pay for the exact time of use, and then park it back in the same spot. It’s all managed from the Malco app, without paperwork or direct contact.
When Do We Recommend Using Carsharing?
Below are some circumstances in which carsharing might be interesting if you need a vehicle:
If You’re Driving Around Castellón
Currently, the carsharing service is only offered in Castellón, specifically at the underground parking in Plaza Borrull. If you live nearby or frequently visit downtown Castellón for leisure or business, and need to pick someone up from the station, go shopping, or meet a client, carsharing is ideal. You won't need to pay for on-street parking, won’t waste time searching for a spot in peak hours, and will only pay for the exact time you need—just €4.20 per hour. Plus, you’ll avoid the close contact that comes with public transport.
If You Need a Car for a Few Hours
Suppose you want to visit nearby towns, go for lunch in Benicàssim, or pick someone up from the airport in Castellón or Valencia, and public transport schedules aren’t convenient—or maybe you just prefer the comfort of traveling by car whenever you want—carsharing is also a good solution.
You Want to Save Money and Time
Instead of renting a car for half a day or a single day, if you think you only need it for a few hours and don’t want to pay for downtime, carsharing can be very helpful. There’s less paperwork—just register on the app, take a photo of your ID and driving license, and add a credit card. Plus, refueling before returning the car is optional.
When Is Renting a Car Better?
It might be the case that none of the above options suit you, indicating carsharing may not be the right service (at least for now). Don’t worry: at Malco Digital Group, we still provide conventional or flexible car rental options to suit your needs. Here are some situations where renting a car is a better choice:
You Need a Car for Several Days
If your need isn’t limited to Castellón, or you want to travel around Spain for a few days, renting a car for a day, two, or a week could be more effective. You’ll also enjoy flexible cancellation and free modifications to your reservation.
You’re Not Sure About Owning a Car
If you don’t want to give up having a car but aren’t considering buying one—because you can’t afford maintenance or you don’t use it daily, or maybe you just change preferences often—our monthly rental with flexible renting could be your best option. Contact us!
